SPRING 2019 NEWSLETTER
KMS continue association with Secured by Design (SBD)
KMS are really pleased that our products continue to be supported by Secured by Design (SBD), the national police crime prevention initiative. This covers a range of our products, details of which can be found on the SBD website.
SBD works on behalf of the Police Service throughout the UK to deliver a wide range of crime prevention and demand reduction initiatives.
SBD plays a significant crime prevention role in the planning process to design out crime in a wide range of building sectors. It has achieved some significant success including one million homes built to SBD standards with reductions in crime of up to 87%.
SBD have many partner organisations, ranging from the Home Office, Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government and the Police Service through to local authorities, housing associations, developers and manufacturers and work closely with standards and certification bodies to ensure that their publicly available standards actually meet the needs of the police and public alike.
Products must be subjected to vigorous testing and auditing by an accredited third party organisation before being allowed to carry the SBD logo – this is the only way for companies to obtain police accreditation for security related products in the UK.

SimpleKey Web gives additional control
The flexibility of SimpleKey Web being a cloud-based platform, provides many of our customers the ability to control more than just communal door access.
More and more Social & Private Landlords are using KMS SimpleKey Web to control access in their offices, as well as the housing block communal doors. Proximity cards can be issued to staff not only to be used for providing access through specific doors at certain times in the offices and housing block communal doors, but can also be used as identity cards. This eliminates the need for costly additional access and identity card systems.
The use of SimpleKey Web means further potential savings for the Social & Private Landlords as well as increased flexibility.

SimpleKey Web – Product Update
SimpleKey Web gets software update to give you even more flexibility with the “Door Unlock Invitation”.
We are always looking at ways to improve SimpleKey Web, driven by our customers’ needs. We recognised that often the ability to give access through a housing block communal door on a temporary but not regular basis is required. In the past the solution has been to provide temporary fobs, but this requires time and relies on the contractor or guest to return the fob after use. Now SimpleKey Web has been updated to allow a “Door Unlock Invitation”. This function allows the system administrator to send an invitation via email to a contractor or visitor, so when they arrive at the housing block it enables them to gain access through the communal door(s) by following the simple email instructions. This means, for example, if a gas inspector needs to enter a block for a one-off inspection they can be given access easily, or if a delivery needs to be dropped off it can, with minimal hassle.
The “Door Unlock Invitation” can be activated from within SimpleKey Web and requires a two-factor authentication so it is secure and ensures only intended guests get access. The benefits to the block managers can be significant with more time and costs saved.

KMS in the community
As a business we have always tried to give back to the community in any way we can. Sometimes this has involved supporting junior football clubs, at other times we will hold events to support charities which have had an impact on one or more of us in the team, but one charity has been close to our hearts for several years.
Wycombe Homeless Connection help homeless people rebuild their lives. We assist them to climb out of the homelessness trap and take their place back in the community. As a charity working to help people without homes it was a natural fit for us to help them and over the years we have undertaken a number of activities from raising funds to helping serve food to the homeless.
So, when we decided that as a business we should adopt a charity for the year it was natural for us to approach Wycombe Homeless Connection and we are proud to announce that for 2019 they will be our Charity of the Year.
We are currently working with them to identify what we can do, but with our knowledge of the housing market we hope that we can do to help improve the quality of life for these people in our community and help get them back on their feet.
